Projected Prices & NAP Deadline

Projected Prices & NAP Deadline

The USDA Risk Management Agency has announced the 2013 projected prices for winter wheat and barley. Jo Lynne Seufer, with the RMA Spokane Regional Office, shares these projected price details.

SEUFER: We’re really happy that barley winter price is $6.10 per bushel, and it has a volatility factor of 0.24. Our winter wheat has a projected price for 2013 of $8.40 per bushel, and that volatility factor is 0.26.

Seufer explains why these prices are critical for producers who are evaluating their fall crop insurance coverage options.

SEUFER: Because they are getting ready to purchase their 2013 insurance policy, and they have to do so by Monday, October 1 for the 2013 crop year, and knowing what these prices are really gives them a heads up on whether or not they want to do just yield protection, price protection - so we’re really glad to get these prices out.

The USDA Farm Service Agency would like to remind producers of the September 30 application closing date for purchasing coverage for the 2013 crop year for fall planted crops under the Non-Insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program. The NAP application for coverage fee is $250 per crop, up to a $750 cap per county. The maximum for multiple crops in more than one county is $1,875 per crop year. In return, the crop is covered from catastrophic loss of production or prevented planting due to natural disaster conditions. For more information contact your local FSA office.
