7-25 IAN Flying EPA
According to the Idaho Statesman, Midwest ranchers have never been enamored with environmental regulators, but they really began to complain after learning that federal inspectors were flying over their land to look for problems. well Wyatt Prescott, Executive Director of the Idaho Cattlemen’s Association: “My reaction is that EPA has done fixed wing flyovers for decades. They predominantly fly over CAFO operations essentially looking for violations but that’s the whole challenge with the EPA. The way they regulate is rather like a dark cloak catch and fine into compliance rather than try to work with people to become better stewards of the environment and bring them into compliance in a civil manner. They would prefer a method of, like you are reading there, flying under that dark cloak and then issuing a fine and a citation and then come around and try and work with the producer and get them into compliance. So it’s kind of like a traffic cop looking for a speeding violation in order to generate revenue. Yes and that is a concern that there is an enforcement portion of the EPA that their sole job is to generate revenue.”
