Time For Cattlemen’s Mid-Year Meetings

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Northwest Farm and Ranch Report.

Ranchers now that your cows are enjoying their summer pasture, it is time to consider attending your state’s mid-year meeting.

For the first time, the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association and the Washington Cattlemen’s Association will be holding their joint mid-year meeting at the Wildhorse Casino in Pendleton on June 28-30.

The WCA’s Executive Vice President Jack Field encourages ranchers from both states to attend.

Field: “We’re really looking forward to this. I think that most important aspect of the mid-year is going to give ranchers on both side of the Columbia the opportunity to realize that the universe is a little bit bigger than the end of the mailbox--end of the road; because the issues we are facing in Washington, they’re facing the same things in Oregon. Whether it is wolves, wilderness, water. Sometimes I think we get a little too engrained to think that we are the only ones fighting the fight, when we have the opportunity to step back and look how somebody else is addressing the same issue, we might have another opportunity to learn something so we are really fortunate to have some great people lined up.”

There will be a golf tournament and BBQ the first day, with the following days’ agendas including joint business meetings discussing many of the issues that affect ranchers in both states.

The Idaho Cattle Association’s Summer Round-Up will be held June 19- 20 in Twin Falls.

Consider gathering with your fellow beef producers and learn more about current issues and have some fun along the way.
