Local Coop Featured on National TV. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

If you are a follower of the Discovery Channel's American Farmer, this mornings episode featured Blue Mountain Growers, an 85-year-old fruit farmers' co-op based in Milton-Freewater. General manager Justin Brunson says they were excited about having this opportunity.

BRUNSON: They had somehow come across our Blue Goose label and they were very intrigued so they reached out, I guess it was probably last October and asked if we’d have any interest in being featured on the American Farmer.

They came out during the last part of harvest and according to Brunson shot a lot of wonderful video featuring the Snake River and the Blue Mountains.

BRUNSON: And then they came to Milton-Freewater, shot photos of the plant, the apple run so they did quite a stretch on the apple run. It’s really just an educational piece on ag in general. So that’s really what they’re all about. It’s education more than anything.

Blue Mountain Growers was formed in 1927 and now has approximately 100 members. Besides apples, growers have cherries and apricots.

BRUNSON: The first gal that’s interviewed is a USDA Farm Service person out of Pendleton so she gave a little perspective on ag from her level and then it goes into there were 4 of us that are farmers that actually were interviewed and one is a crop consultant for Blue Mountain on contract and then my operation manager, plant manager came in and was interviewed.

If you missed the program this morning it will air again on RFD-TV.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
