3-13 FB Farm Water

Some measurable and recorded data on water usage in Idaho over the years shows that we need to be careful. In a recent chat with Gov. Otter, the subject of water use in agriculture came up and it turns out that we have had to make some pretty serious adjustments in the way that we are using this precious resource. The governor started with some interesting statistics and facts.  “Between 1956 and 1964, we averaged 55,000 acres per year that we were putting underwater that had been desert and now it is farmland. We just kept looking in the river and saying hey there’s some more water there and we really didn’t have the sophisticated measuring ability that we have today. Our measuring ability and our management ability have all come together and will continue to come together so that we will have a water future in our state. Anything we do in Idaho or the world for that matter, involves water. When we send spacecrafts to land on a planet what is the 1st thing we ask for… Is there water? Water is life as we know it.”
