The National Cattlemen’s Beef  Association (NCBA) President BillDonald said it is encouraging that there is a growing chorus of opposition to the regulations being proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that would have harmful effects on U.S. cattlemen and women. Specifically, Donald said members of the U.S. House of Representatives offered amendments to H.R. 1, legislation to fund the federal government through the end of this fiscal year that would block funding for many of the onerous regulatory proposals at EPA.

“This EPA does not seem to have any understanding of production agriculture and our way of life. Sometimes it seems they are trying to turn all of our nation’s farm and ranch lands into one vast national park,” Donald said. “It is disappointing we are in this situation, but it is reassuring that members of the House of Representatives have listened to cattle producers’ concerns and are working to rein in the EPA.”

Somebody with a different take on this situation is the Idaho Farm Bureau’s Range Management Specialist, Wally Butler who thinks policy may often be driven by the media: “If the media gets hold of it and says we’re being choked out, the dust is killing us, the general of society because of emotion is gonna pick up on it.”
