3-28 IAN March Rain
Water water everywhere with lots of drops to drink. I everybody I am David sparks and according to the natural resources conservation service March was very good to all of us with particular relevance to the Ag community. I’ll be right back with that report. March has brought one and a half times its normal monthly precipitation to the Boise basins, helping local water supplies to recover to near average amounts. The story is similar across the state; snowpacks statewide range from 91-131% of average. As winter winds down, water supplies are looking good for this summer. Here’s an NRCS hydrologist Jeff Anderson: “Snowpack reports in Idaho range from 100 to 130% of normal across the state with the best snowpack being in the Bear River basin in the south east corner of the state but really looking across the state we have average or better than average snowpacks for the whole state. The reason for that is that we have pumped up quite a bit this month from last month thanks to precipitation in March That was 115 to 200% of normal across the state. Many of the mountains across the state received about 1 ½ times the amount of normal precipitation for March and that boosted up the snowpack late in the season to get us from slightly below average back to average amounts.
