SURE sign up underway

Washington Ag Today January 20, 2011 The sign up period began last week for the 2009 crop year Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments, or SURE program. Eligible producers who suffered losses during the 2009 crop year can sign up at local Farm Service Agency offices.

Craig Trimm of the national FSA says to be eligible for SURE a farm must have had at least a ten percent production loss on a crop of economic significance.

Trimm: “And a crop of economic significance is anything that contributes at least five percent of the total farm income.”

A producer must also have been participating in federal crop insurance and been located in a county that was under a Secretarial Disaster Declaration or in a contiguous county.

There are some exceptions to these requirements so check with FSA.

Now this from Stockland Livestock.

“This is Jack McQuinness here at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. On Monday right at 15-hundred head of cattle on the market. A good strong sale all the way around. We had plenty of feeder cattle. A big crowd of buyers and an active and strong sale for feeder cattle and weigh up cows and bulls and stock cows. The Timm Ranch up north had 55 head of bred heifers going out at 12-hundred-90 dollars. Top on the bred cows was 13-hundred dollars and feeder cattle steady to strong, two to three dollars higher all the way around. Cattle sales every Monday here. We will have our next special sale on February the 7th. That’s all from Stockland Livestock in Davenport. Thanks for listening.

Thanks Jack.
