Egin-Hamer Area Closure doesn’t mean the road. I’m DS

Some people consider the number 13 to be unlucky, but as the Egin-Hamer Area Closure moves into its thirteenth year, all parties involved agree that luck has been on their side. What started out as an idea by local county commissioners to reopen Egin-Hamer Road, a popular farm to market road 13 years ago, continues to be a success not just for humans, but also for wintering wildlife.  According to IDFG the lack of human disturbance created by the closure has allowed herds of deer, elk, and moose to spend more time down on the desert between St. Anthony and Dubois during crucial portions of the late winter and early spring.  So,the Idaho Department of Fish & Game (IDFG), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and Fremont County are once again closing the Egin-Hamer area for access starting January 1st through the winter/spring to protect wintering wildlife in this area. If you’re a farmers and rancher that doesn’t mean  you can’t use the road according to FG Greg Losinski: “People can go through the route, they just can’t get off the route.” Losinki says this is a measure to prevent antler collectors, snowmobilers, and winter adventurers from disturbing animal populations.
