11-2 FB Vaughn's Corn

Corn prices going up and that’s good for corn producers but maybe not great for beef consumers because that means beef prices may go up but…but…I’m David Sparks and we’ll talk with a corn farmer next. You know it just seems if not impossible, certainly improbable, that we’re ever gonna’ make everybody happy. At the beginning of the growing season, it was a wet cold spring and producers weren’t happy with their outlook. In fact, the Agriculture Department’s October crop report that showed a smaller-than-expected corn crop is helping drive commodity prices upward. Certainly a smaller than expected corn crop can make successful corn farmers like Vaughn Jensen of Emmett happy: “I’m combining some corn in the neighbor’s field. We haven’t harvested a kernel of our corn yet, we probably will start in a couple days our harvest is a little late. Presently prices are good. We contracted some earlier and the prices are good enough now that we wish we hadn’t but that’s how the ball bounces.”
