CRP sign up ends in days; a crop insurance deadline coming too

Farm and Ranch August 24, 2010 Farmers, ranchers and landowners interested in submitting a bid in the current Conservation Reserve Program general sign up only have a few days left to do so.

Hamilton: “Sign up is scheduled to end on August 27th.”

That’s Rod Hamilton of the Washington State Farm Service Agency who says the general CRP sign up ends this Friday, August 27th at the close of business at local FSA offices.

A federal crop insurance sales closing date is also coming right up. Jo Lynne Seufer with the regional Risk Management Agency office says that is August 31st.

Seufer: “Which is really the final date for producers of fall planted onions. That is mostly Umatilla and Walla Walla counties, and 2011 planted canola and rapeseed.”

Federal crop insurance coverage was expanded for 2011 on canola to include Douglas and Okanogan counties.

Later, on September 30th is the sales closing date for several other 2011 crops including wheat and RMA’s Seufer says that will be the beginning of the combo insurance for wheat.

Seufer: “Producers working with their crop insurance agent will not have like 20 products to choose from. They will have one product with multiple options, which is a lot easier for producers to understand, a lot less paperwork we hope and also for our agents. So, we are excited about that.”
