Geo-caching. What is it? An older model Chevy that someone’s trying to sell? Not quite. It’s a hich tech way to get people involved with weed control. I’m David Sparks.
We either have too much time on our hands these days or technology has reached a point where it’s going to control our world in ways you can’t imagine. When I was a kid my Dad use to say, get out in the yard and dig up those weeds. I took a job with a grower and one of my primary responsibilities was getting down on hands and knees and pulling weeds. Well Ada county now has a new plan. They’re hiding little containers around the GreenBelt and asking people to locate them with their GPS’s. It’s like a scavenger hunt on steroids. Here’s Ada County Weed Control Operations Manager Jacob Mundt: We’ve created geo-caches through Ada County Weed Control and we have placed them in areas that are near areas of noxious weed infestations. The cache contains educational information about the noxious weed so that people can learn about it, what it looks like, how it spreads and we hope they’ll watch for that weed as they geo-cache in other places.” I see Roger Batt on TV talking about noxious weeds, I wonder which program works better.
