GRAS2P Tips

GRAS2P Tips. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. Last week we started giving you a weekly GRAS2P tip. GRAS2P stands for Growers Response to Agricultural Safe and Sustainable Practices which is a Washington tree fruit industry grower-based effort for audit readiness, food safety operating procedures, establishment of standards for sustainable practices, traceability from market back to farm, and continued use of good agricultural practices in orchards. This week the Ag Networks Lacy Gray looks at "Orientation for Harvest Workers." GRAY: Good sanitation and worker hygiene practices are critical components of a food safety program at the orchard level as well as promoting the health and well-being of the labor force. In a food safety audit situation, workers should not only demonstrate but also be able to speak to the importance of hand washing before beginning or returning to work, using bathrooms/portable toilets, and sick employees not handling fresh fruit. This is part of Global G.A.P. and USDA GAP. GRAS2P provides sound economic, environmental, and educational solutions to assure and sustain safe, quality for Washington tree fruit production. For more information on the GRAS2P program, visit their website at www.gras2p.com. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
