Scorpion Pesticide Part 2

Scorpion Pesticide Part 2. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. On Friday we began a conversation with Eric McEwen, Brand Manager for Gowan Company, who has recently announced the federal section 3 registration of Scorpion™ 35SL insecticide for broad-spectrum insect control in a number of pests including leafhopper and mealy bugs on grapes. McEWEN: The benefit of this product as far as speed of uptake which will be the leading, probably best in class in uptake, it relates to water solubility. So it has a higher water solubility which really increases that plant uptake in the plant. It gives you quicker protection if you have something that's vectoring a virus so it's really going to stop that insect from vectoring quicker. McEwen says that Scorpion was built to be used when you need it. McEWEN: I kind of talk (about) it like a spoon feed where you want to get a month, 2 months of control and then if you want to hit it again, do another application later. Scorpion is powered by the third generation neonictiniod dinotefuran. McEwen says it is available now. McEWEN: It's registered in the state of Washington and some other states. It's not registered in Oregon yet so those who are listening from Oregon but it is registered in the state of Washington. We would expect Oregon registration within the next couple of weeks. Idaho the same thing. What happens is when you get your federal registration it typically takes about 2 to 3 weeks to get your state registration. For more information on Scorpion 35SL see your local chemical dealer or visit their website at gowanco.com. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
