More Humane Society

More Humane Society

First Vermont did it and I did a story with a video blog. It was almost comical but now who’s laughing. We’re being invaded and it’s time to get very pro-active immediately. I’m David Sparks and I’ll have the story in a minute. The Humane Society of the United States is trying to change animal agriculture in this country one state at a time.  But even though the voters of one state determined how they thought animal welfare issues should be handled, HSUS didn’t like the results. By a two to one margin Ohio voters approved a constitutional amendment to create a livestock care standards board to create standards for the care and well-being of farm animals.  Even though that board hasn’t even started work yet, the Humane Society of the United States has already started a new campaign saying that board isn’t good enough.

Here’s Jack Fisher, Executive Vice President of the Ohio Farm Bureau: “They are putting another ballot initiative to further amend the Ohio constitution and this specifically would be a directive to the livestock care standards board relative to housing practices in the poultry, pork and veal industries.  so before the board is up and functioning, conducted their first hearing, set about to do their due diligence, if you will, the humane society decided that they know better than those of us in the industry, ohio consumers on how things should be done.”

Fisher warns farmers around the country that this kind of action is now just a part of being in animal agriculture, and it’s hard to find the silver lining.
