Pacific Northwest Direct Seed Conference approaching

Farm and Ranch January 12, 2010 The 13th Annual Pacific Northwest Direct Seed Conference is coming up next week January 20th and 21st in Kennewick, Washington at the Three Rivers Convention Center.

Russ Evans is the Executive Director of the Pacific Northwest Direct Seed Association, which sponsors the conference.

Evans: “We have an exciting lineup of international guests, national guests and local growers who are going to share their knowledge on how direct seed systems work.”

One of the speakers is Theodor Friedrich of the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Association.

Evans: “Talking about conservation agricultural systems and how important they are from a global perspective in order to feed a growing world population.”

There are several conference sessions like one on maintaining the benefits of Conservation Reserve land and chem-fallow.

Evans: “In the dry regions where fallow is a necessity we are looking at some successful tips for a successful chem-fallow program . Really that is imperative to keeping soil in place, minimizing wind erosion, water erosion, things like that.”

Evans says registration is still be taken for next week’s meeting. He says you can pre-register by calling the Pacific Northwest Direct Seed Association office at 208-883-0190 or at the association’s website at
