Wheat Growers gather in Spokane
Washington Ag Today November 18, 2009 “Fields of Grain: Seeds of Hope.” That is the theme for this year’s annual convention of the Washington Association of Wheat Growers, which starts tomorrow and runs through Saturday at the Davenport Hotel in Spokane. WAWG President Britt Ausman highlights some of the agenda. Ausman: “We are going to have a great convention. We are bringing in Dave Kohl an economist sponsored through Northwest Farm Credit Services. We are going to have Art Barnaby giving his view on ag and it is just going to be a great convention. Some great education workshops and good entertainment. The Washington Wheat Foundation is going to hold their annual auction Friday evening after the dinner.” Attendees will also hear from former Washington wheat grower Jim Miller who is now USDA Undersecretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services. Ausman makes special note of the continued support of agri-business for the Wheat Grower convention. Ausman: “Even though there are tough times in the economy our partners understand that ag plays an important role in to keeping the backbone of the economy going in the right direction and our partners have been great about continuing their support for us to have a great convention.” There will 30 exhibitors at the Washington Association of Wheat Growers convention.
