Changes for grape insurance
Washington Ag Today November 9, 2009 The Risk Management Agency Spokane Regional Office recently announced program enhancements and expansion of the availability of Federal Crop Insurance Corporation’s Grape Multi-Peril Crop Insurance for the 2010 crop year. RMA’s Jo Lynne Seufer sums up the grape policy enhancements being implemented. Seufer: “Producers will be able to insure optional units by variety and they can have a separate coverage level, up to 85%, on those different varieties, and that is a huge improvement. Then they can have a separate price election by type with an option to use their contract prices. This was at the request of several producers. We have extended our end of insurance date to November 10th to accommodate some of the wineries request for longer hang time.” The MCPI Grape program has also been expanded in Washington. Seufer: “Those expanded counties include Clark, Island, Kitsap, Mason, Pierce, San Juan and Skagit counties.” The sales closing date for the grape policy and coverage on various fruits, including apples, is coming up November 20th. Current policy holders and uninsured growers must make all of their decisions on crop insurance coverage and level of coverage prior to that sales closing date. As always, producers are encouraged to visit their insurance agent. I’m Bob Hoff and that’s Washington Ag Today on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
