Chinese Food

Chinese Food

In science there is a concept called a perpetual motion machine and if we adapt it to, let’s say agriculture and the economy, it means that we can get food without having to do any work. Well, there’s a perpetual motion machine somewhere in the government that could put all farmers out of work if it was taken to it’s natural limit.

Listen to this. In California, officials are buying foreign produce instead of domestic food to be handed out to jobless farm workers who are out of work because of drought shutting down farms. California Congressman Jim Costa wants to know how this can be: “Some of the fruit had been imported from China and some of the carrots had been imported from China. I mean this makes absolutely no sense.” Congressman Costa happens to be from Fresno…the heartland of California agriculture…a heartland that is being impacted by drought. “That’s salt in the wound that I’m not willing to accept.”

The food was being provided to recipients who had lost their jobs when farmers had to cut back crops due to a loss of irrigation water due to a court decision. Costa also points out that federal law mandates that food provided for emergency assistance be food that is produced in the United States.

We’re in a recession, we need a stimulus called producing and consuming American products…but we’re importing food from a country that has sent us tainted milk and tons of other toxic or poor quality junk. Have we completely lost our way?
