Idaho Water Commissioner Retires

Idaho Department of Water Resources Director David Tuthill recently announced his retirement from public service. He will resign as director effective June 30 of this year after 33 years with IDWR. Tuthill was appointed as IDWR Director by Governor Otter in April of 2007.

As Director, he oversaw the administration of water calls in the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer and oversaw completion of their Comprehensive Aquifer Management Plan as well as the pursuit of additional water storage throughout all of Idaho. You are all undoubtedly aware of the pitched battles between irrigation users and fish farms accessing the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer and Director Tuthill was right in the center of it all. “Any battle scars or cuts on your ears after all this? I certainly have cuts and scars, you’re right about that. When I had the difficult job of telling the staff that I’d be retiring, I said this job has been 95% good and 5% not so good.”

We wish him all the luck in the world for a job well done.
