The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation is planning to set

up model wheat farms in Uganda in a bid to boost production of the grain, the New

Vision reported Wednesday. The state-owned daily said that a technical team from Egypt and Uganda last year finalized a feasibility study on large-scale wheat production in Uganda. During the study, the team assessed the suitability of wheat production and exports.

The Ukraine is likely to export 26 million metric tons of grain in the current marketing year, July 2008-June 2009, a rise on the 25 million tons forecast earlier, the Agriculture Ministry said Wednesday.

According to Louise Gartner with the Linn Group Mother Nature may be giving grain farmers a break.

Gartner: Looking a break in the weather that should allow a great deal of seeding to get done and also will certainly help what’s already in the ground and that goes for spring wheat as well as corn and soybeans.
