Getting Construction Started

Getting Construction Started.  I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

The Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center has been in the works for some time now and according to Debbi Heintz, Executive Director of the Prosser Economic Development Association and a board member of the Clore Center people in the wine industry are about to see some progress.

HEINTZ: The board will be having a meeting on the 14th to take a final look at the infrastructure plans for preparing the site and hat includes electricity, lighting, paving, the parking lot area, irrigation and some land leveling and landscaping.

She says that after so much time the excitement of the Center has worn thin.

HEINTZ: We’re hearing from the region and the area this has been out there for quite a while. We’ve struggled with trying to get enough dollars to make the building happen. We think we have that in place; we’re just kind of waiting. People want to see some results.

They will be using some existing dollars to get the work underway even though a million dollars from the state was recently cut. They went to an alternate plan.

HEINTZ: We also have a Federal EDA Grant application in for $2.5 million so we’re working that through the processes. We had a presentation in Seattle back in February and now we’re just kind of waiting word.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
