Dung Bricks

Dung Bricks

The three little pigs with their houses of brick, straw and sticks probably would have turned their noses up at a house made of dung, which sounds too far fetched even for fairy tales. But reportedly it is quite real and is produced by EcoFaeBrick. Having currently just won the Global Social Venture competition sponsored by the Haas School of Business in Berkley these bricks of dung may just go on to be the next best thing in building material for the green conscious crowd. The bricks are touted at being twenty percent stronger and lighter weight than clay bricks and in effect could reduce carbon emissions and the utilization of un-renewable clay used in traditional brick making. Cow dung bricks could also be another source of income for farmers and ranchers. Right now EcoFaeBrick plans to focus their production and expansion in areas that are developing at a rapid pace and which also support a large cattle population. I still have to wonder though, what will the house made of dung smell like after a big rainstorm?
