06/05/08 LCP and LIP sign up deadlines

Signups started last September but will end on July 18th for livestock producers to enroll in the 2005-2007 Livestock Compensation Program and Livestock Indemnity Program. Those two programs provide aid to livestock producers who suffered losses between January 1, 2005 and December 30, 2007 because of natural disaster. KEPPY "LIP is that if you had a natural disaster and you had livestock loss then there's a payment that the producer is eligible for. LCP is if there is a loss of any of the feed that the producer is using because of the natural disaster." That's deputy Farm Service Agency administrator Glen Keppy. In Idaho nearly three million dollars have been dispersed to producers who suffered losses through drought or wildfires. Idaho FSA officials say they haven't seen many producers lately. KEPPY "That tells us that most eligible producers have already been to their county office but I just encourage any producer out there that it doesn't hurt to go into the office and ask and see if you're eligible or not. The local office will work with you." More information about LCP and LIP is available online at: http://disaster.fsa.usda.gov. Today's Idaho Ag News Bill Scott
