03/17/08 Being Green

It's not easy being green, as Kermit the Frog would quickly attest to, but it is worth the effort. And what better day to start being green if you haven't already, than today, St. Patrick's Day! Start a new tradition of being green on St. Pat's by reusing resealable plastic bags, choose rechargeable batteries, use a refillable mug for your daily coffee instead of a disposable one, or by free sharing, a volunteer driven movement that makes it easy to clean out the attic or garage without filling up a dumpster. Just register your unwanted items on the internet and your junk will become someone else's treasure. Even your dry cleaning can go green, but make sure they are using the carbon dioxide cleaning process. And here's one I'm sure everyone will love, stop all of that unwanted junk mail. According to greendimes.com we as a nation use 100 million trees and 28 billion gallons of water a year to produce junk mail. Just register for the Mail Preference Service on the Direct Marketing Association site. So "Top o' the Mornin" to you and may all your days be green.
