Whoever said the horse market was down didn't attend the National Cutting Horse Finals in Fort Worth last month. I'm Jeff Keane and I'll be right back with some sales highlights. It's no surprise that Thoroughbred yearlings at Keenland sell for six figures but the fact that young quarter horses now command those prices is pretty exciting. Here's Susan. Your right Jeff, it's expected that some Saudi sheik will shell out $700,000 for a fancy Thoroughbred baby from Kentucky but $500,000 for a quarter horse weaning is amazing. Curlys Cowgirl , a Zack T Wood daughter was the sales topper breaking the $395,000 record set in 2004 and she wasn't alone, two other youngsters did as well . According to Western Bloodstock the sale producer, prices at the Invitational Yearling Sale were up fourteen and a half percent from last year averaging over $79,000 per head. The top selling seasoned horse, a five year old daughter of Smart little Lena lived up to her name, Absolutely Stunning, selling for five hundred and seventy-five thousand dollars. Susan these sales results remind me of a cartoon with a couple of guys sitting on horses. One tells his friend "you know my accountant says I've created a small fortune with my horse business this year. His buddy is quick to reply. "Yeah but you started with a large one!" That the sums it up pretty for the cutting horse industry. I'm Jeff Keane.
