Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Sanders: “We had 3500 tons of hay trade. Compared to last Friday all grades of export alfalfa was steady in a light test. Domestic alfalfa was weak in a light test. Trade was slow with light to moderate demand. Alfalfa mid square bales premium supreme sold at $133 that was tarped. Good export hay alfalfa sold for $115 per ton. “

In Idaho compared to the previous week feeder grade alfalfa was steady in a light test. Trade remains slow with very light demand. With very cold temperatures last week combined with the upcoming holidays, many interests are waiting until after the first of the year to resume business. Mid squares of alfalfa rated rated fair to good tarped sold for $80 per ton.

In Oregon prices trended generally steady in a limited compared to previous week. In Central Oregon large squares of utility alfalfa sold for $90 per ton. Good to premium small squares of orchard grass for the retail/stable market sold between $225 and $230 per ton. In Lake County large squares of alfalfa rated premium for export sold for $150 per ton. Small squares of premium alfalfa sold for $185 for the retail/stable market. In Eastern Oregon large squares of alfalfa rated fair sold for $95 per ton. In Klamath Basin large squares of supreme alfalfa sold between $165 and $170 per ton. Harney County had no new sales confirmed.
