Friday, I talked about the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture and the H5N1 situation. Today, I talk about NASDA and the Farm Bill. As the 2024 election Year heats up, it's becoming even more crucial that a farm bill gets passed in the coming months. That, according to NASDA Senior Director of Public Policy, RJ Karney, referring to the Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, Glenn GT Thompson.

“Has announced that he plans to release his draft farm bill and have a markup of that Farm Bill, paying very close attention working with the chairman's office to find out the details and we will look forward to participating throughout this process. This is the first step, the first active step that we've seen in terms of having draft legislation potentially be introduced, there still going to be a long path, a long runway to ultimately get a farm bill passed by 2024. I do think there's many headwinds that will make it very difficult to ultimately see a farm bill reach the President's desk by 2024. However, it's important to see this first step take place. This is one that we don't know what the details are at this current moment. But we do know as we've heard throughout this entire process, both the House and Senate want to see a bipartisan farm bill get passed.”

Karney says that now to fully support the bipartisan, unified Farm Bill.
