Seeking Nominations for Noxious Weed Advisory Committee

The State Noxious Weed Advisory Committee is accepting nominations for three positions that will become vacant in December. Colorado Department of Ag’s State Weed Coordinator Steve Ryder shares more about the three available positions to the Committee
Ryder: “The advisory committee is a statewide committee and we’re looking for specific expertise and also a wide variety of geographic locations as well. At present what we are looking for a person who works in the green industry — who is somebody who works in horticulture, a green house nursery, urban forestry, turf. We are also looking for a resource specialist and this would be someone who works in weed science, landscape ecology, natural areas management or somebody who has some landscape or native grass background. Then we have one at-large spot and that is really anyone who is interested in noxious weed management across the state.”
Nominations are currently being accepted and must be submitted no later than November 1st. Ryder continues with more details of the committee’s responsibilities
Ryder: “They make recommendations to the Commission or the Department concerning the designation of state noxious weeds, the classification — whether they are a A, B, or C — and how we implement state weed management plans. Also we also like to help out local entities and private landowners by publishing prescribed techniques for eradication, containment or suppression of these noxious weeds. So give people a tool box in dealing with them.”
The committee meets quarterly at the Broomfield office, with at least one field trip and meeting out of the Denver area annually.
