The National Hurricane Center says tropical storm Hermine is now hurricane Hermine and Florida Gov. Rick Scott is telling Florida residents who haven't seen a hurricane in more than a decade to prepare for the worst: "bottom line is that it is life threatening and we will see a huge storm surge with a lot of rain, flooding, downed power lines. There is going to be a lot of risk if we don't do our job and everybody needs to be prepared." There is a state of emergency and 51 counties.

Yesterday, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump made his case to veterans at the annual American Legion Convention in Cincinnati and he was talking VA health system: "I deal with veterans all the time, we have tremendous veteran support and the stories I hear are so sad." Trump pledged that he would overhaul the VA system.

Federal land managers have issued new guidelines that will help determine what restrictions are imposed on oil and gas drilling, livestock grazing and other activities in the West to protect the greater sage grouse.

The guidelines released yesterday are part of a broader effort to save the distinctive bird without resorting to the Endangered Species Act, which could bring down tougher restrictions.

Conservationists and industry groups are watching closely because the guidelines will influence how vigorously the government implements a sage grouse protection plan announced last year.

Among other things, the guidelines tell federal employees when and how to apply the new rules.
