Fungicide Help. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Line On Agriculture.

During the recent Potato Expo we spent some time with Charlie Bergmann, Fungicide Product Manager for Bayer Crop Science who talked about a couple of their products.

BERGMANN: I’ve got responsibility for several brands, two of which we’re spending some focus on here at the Potato Expo are Luna Tranquility which is a new fungicide we launched in 2012 and then Emesto Silver which is a brand new liquid seed piece treatment we’re introducing in 2013.

So what is Emesto Silver going to do for your operation?

BERGMANN: Emesto Silver is a new liquid fungicide seed piece treatment. It contains two active ingredients both of which are new to potatoes and it was designed that way for built in resistance management to diseases. The three diseases it works well on are Rhizoctonia, Fusarium and silver scurf. And some of our experiences have been really positive in the sense that there are resistant strains of Fusarium to other fungicides.

He says they’ve seen good results in other countries.

BERGMANN: We also introduced this product with a red colorant that allows growers to easily see what they’re treated and that was based on feedback from growers that the application of fungicides to a seed piece treatment can be a bit of a challenge to determine if they’re got good coverage. This allows then to easily get coverage and see what’s been treated.
