Another Beef Counts roll over auction

Another Beef Counts roll over auction

Washington Ag Today November 30, 2011 The Washington beef industry is holding another Beef Counts rollover auction to benefit Second Harvest. The auction is this Thursday, December 1st at Toppenish Livestock Auction in Toppenish at one p.m.

Washington Beef Commission Chairman Ted Kerst talked about the Beef Counts program at a recent rollover auction in Davenport.

Kerst: “There is such a need for the Beef Counts to succeed. We started this last year with these roll over auctions and it has worked very well with all the livestock auctions in Washington participating and it just helps get that much more generated for the Second Harvest food bank.”

Last year about 30-thousand dollars was donated to Beef Counts at auctions in Davenport and Toppenish. Beef Counts partner Agri Beef Co. matches each donation by 50 percent significantly increasing the reach of the auction donations.

A steer for the Toppenish auction has been donated by the Franklin County Cattlemen’s Association and Washington Cattlemen’s Association President Larry Olberding.

Beef in the form of family-size packs of lean and nutritious round roasts will be distributed to families in need across Eastern Washington through Second Harvest mobile food distributions.

The latest versions of the Washington State Department of Agriculture’s popular “crop map” and “food processing map” have now been posted to the agency’s website. WSDA works with the National Agricultural Statistics Service to update the crop map each year.
