Top farmers markets

Top farmers markets

Washington Ag Today September 8, 2011 The results are in on this year’s voting in the American Farmland Trust’s favorite farmers market contest.

In that contest the top five farmers markets in Washington were in order;

Ballard Farmers Market, Auburn International Farmers Market, Bellingham Farmers Market, Chewelah Farmers Market and Prosser Farmer Market.

Three of Washington’ farmers markets were among the top 20 nationally in their category based on number of venders. They were Ballard, Auburn and Chewelah’s farmers markets.

About 17-hundred markets across the nation enrolled in the contest.

The grain harvest continues in Washington but farmers are planting next year’s winter wheat crop as well. The National Agricultural Statistics Service says the state’s farmers have seeded 16 percent of the crop.

Now this from Stockland Livestock.

“This is Jack McQuinness from Stockland Livestock in Davenport. No sale this past week, Labor Day Holiday. We will be back in business with a nice sale here on the 12th. We have calves and yearlings consigned from a wide area. We are working on a stronger market earlier in the week. Futures in all weights and classes higher. Pretty much steady market on the cows. Don’t forget our big special sale coming up on October 8th. That is our carlot sale. That’s Stockland in Davenport. Call us anytime, 509-535-2444.

Thanks Jack.

I’m Bob Hoff and that’s Washington Ag Today on Northwest Aginfo Net.
