Crop insurance. How does a farmer handle not getting in a crop while at the same time trying to get a check. I’m David Sparks.

I have been doing stories on Farm service agency, crop insurance, how producers can cover themselves for years. This is the last installation of what until now have been theoretical issues but are coming into play with Northern Idaho farmer Robert Blair and many just like him. He couldn’t get in a crop due to rain.So how long do you have to wait to get a check? That won’t happen until this fall. You are sitting on your hands because the CRC insurance is revenue based and that final number they use I believe is around July / August. So you will not receive an insurance check until September or October possibly November. What is the level of frustration right now? You don’t know what you don’t know. This is a scenario in our area we haven’t taken a preventative plant. So that level of uncertainty, am I going to qualify for preventative plant. Are they going to say no you should have put it in and that timeframe goes away and now you have no crop potential and no insurance. If I plant a crop and it is a complete loss at least I can get some revenue.  If I am not able to qualify for preventative plant I don’t even have that then. If they say we think you could have gotten in so there is a lot of nailbiting going on right now, apprehension over being in an unknown situation. Then you take the natural tendency of a farmer to put a crop in and this year we can not.
