From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. If you hear a lot of corks popping this month down in the Southeastern corner of Washington, there’s a good reason for that.

Liz Knapke, Executive Director at the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance, says April is Walla Walla Valley Wine Month …

KNAPKE … “This year is the fifth anniversary of Walla Walla Valley Wine Month. So, this is the fifth time we’ve taken April to celebrate all things that take place here in the valley and it’s a really special year because it coincides with our 40th Anniversary of receiving our AVA designation.”

Knapke says there are a lot of great wine events happening …

KNAPKE … “And April is a really unique time. It’s kind of the perfect time to visit Walla Walla valley because there’s so much taking place. It’s such a dynamic time here in this region.”

And the wineries, Knapke says are buzzing …

KNAPKE … “So, a number of wineries during this time are releasing roses or talking about drinking pink as well as whites that are coming on to the market, and more and more bubbles and sparkling wines are popping up here in the valley and from producers.”

Knapke says there’s plenty of blooms downtown and so much to do. We love this time of year and that’s why we want to celebrate it.

Tune in tomorrow for more on Walla Walla Valley Wine Month.
