Colorado San Luis Valley potato farmer, Bob Mattive is serving as the new president for the National Potato Council. The organization has several goals for the upcoming year Mattive talks about some of the key initiatives that they are working on.

“We're always dealing with trade issues. Of course, Farmville is top of mind trying to work on getting something done. They're continuing with our expanded trade efforts since I was chairman of the Environmental Affairs Committee why there are several environmental issues in terms of Pesticide Regulations and things that we're kind of pushing back on because we need to maintain those tools for producers to use.”

Another major issue that they are in constant battle with is the dietary guidelines according to V. Right now-

“The dietary guidelines are being renewed. So nutritional value of potatoes in those federal policies is important to us as as those guidelines are being put together because there's been a bit of a movement to classify or reclassify potatoes as grain which is not scientifically supported, but it is a vegetable and it's America's number one most favorite vegetables.”

Once again, that was Bob Mattive. He is the incoming president of the National Potato Council. For more information on issues they advocate for go to national potato council.org.
