From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. $28 dollars of every Washington apple license plate sold helps support the Washington Apple Education Foundation, and the industry students they help get to college.

And, Todd Fryhover, president of the Washington Apple Commission, says WAEF has been diligent in promoting the plates …

FRYHOVER … “WAEF has done a great job at doing that. I mean, almost 1,200 plates? That’s pretty amazing, you know, we need to get more of them of course out there, and we will continue to do that for the benefit of WAEF. But just the entire process and the amount of money we get to put back into the WAEF organization and give back to the students is incredible.”

The plates represent Washington agriculture, Fryhover says which is who we are …

FRYHOVER … “We are the second most diverse state as far as production capability goes, behind California. Without ag in Central Washington, what would we be? We would be a desert. There wouldn’t be anybody living out here. Ag really drives Central Washington.”

So, Fryhover says it makes sense …

FRYHOVER … “When you take the mission statement of the Washington Apple Education Foundation and what they’re trying to do to improve the lives of the people who work in our industry, their children, I mean how can you not participate in a program like this?”

Fryhover says give a little, get a lot …

FRYHOVER … “It’s only a few extra dollars a year, but it shows your support of the industry and you’re supporting the furthering education of our youth within the apple and pear and cherry industries.”
