Trillion Trees Act

I’m Bob Larson. Planting a trillion trees by 2050 is an ambitious target, but that’s what Arkansas Congressman Bruce Westerman is out to achieve.

And, Sunnyside Republican, U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says he’s urging support for Westerman’s Trillion Trees Act …

NEWHOUSE … “So, this is kind of a common sense response to an issue that we have and utilizing what I think is nature’s best natural ability to sequester carbon and that’s utilizing photosynthesis. And, what better way to that than with trees?”

Newhouse says the Act is about reducing carbon emissions and preventing wildfires …

NEWHOUSE … “Part of this is better management of our forests. Healthy forests certainly provide us with a better carbon cinq than unhealthy forests. So, that’s certainly part of my priority here too.”

Newhouse says it’s an easy way for all Americans to help …

NEWHOUSE … “Everybody can plant a tree. It’s going to take a lot of trees to get to a trillion and we can’t do it all in the United States so this is going to end up being more of a global effort. But I think it’s something that can work and that people can take and be a part of and that it would be very good for the environment.

The Act is based on a Swiss report featured by the American

Academy for the Advancement of Science that concludes planting a trillion more trees could sequester 205 gigatons of carbon, roughly two-thirds of all manmade carbon since the Industrial Revolution.
