Cathy McMorris Rodgers Expected to Named Next Interior Secretary

Washington State's 5th Congressional District Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers is expected to be chosen by President-elect Trump to lead the Department of Interior. Washington Cattlemen's Association Executive Vice President Jack Field says this would be very positive for the agriculture and natural resources industries.

Field: "The Congresswoman has worked very closely with stakeholders on all sides of issues pertaining to multi-use and natural resource management."

For those of you across the West not familiar with Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers, Field shares more examples of why she would be effective in this position.

Field: "I think one of the big benefits and one of her strengths given the landscape, geography and challenges that face the constituents in the Fifth Congressional District, I think that has very well suited Cathy for this next step. She has extensive experience in working with water issues — both water quality and water supply — wilderness issues, forest management, wildfire, Endangered Species Act, gray wolf recovery, grizzly bears. Cathy has been there and has helped represent the constituents of the Fifth District on all those issues. I think that is a really strong set of experience and background that Cathy will bring to the table that will help all of us as we go forward. I think everybody across the country would share the belief that we do have a few things that need to be changed when we look at how the federal government currently manages natural resources."
