Have you ever wanted to get into the trapping business? I might have some good news for you, this year Colorado Parks and Wildlife invites novices to learn about the arts of trapping and calling small-game predators during CPW's 'Trapping and Predator Calling 101.' The one-evening seminar will take place Dec. 13, 6 - 9 p.m. at the CPW Hunter Education Building, 711 Independent Avenue in Grand Junction.

There is no fee for the class; however, pre-registration is required. Registration is available by phone at 970-255-6100 and also online.

"Trapping is synonymous with Colorado's frontier heritage. Many people still participate and there are many that want to learn," said Kathleen Tadvick, Northwest Region education coordinator for CPW. "Predator calling is an art and those that are good at it have a much greater chance of success. It may seem easy, but it's skill that requires knowledge and practice. This is your chance if you want to learn how to do it right from skilled instructors."

Instructor and Senior Hunt Master, Dan Uhrich and CPW staff will provide guidance about a wide variety of topics including the Harvest Information Program, the variety of predator calls and decoys, day calling vs night calling, camouflage clothing, the variety of live traps and lures that can be legally used in Colorado and other state rules and regulations.

Tadvick adds there is much to know about how to trap legally and ethically in Colorado.

If you're interested in trapping and predator calling, check with your state or regional fish and wildlife department to find out more on your states guidelines.
