Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had 1,975 tons of hay trade. Compared to last Friday, all grades of export and domestic alfalfa steady in a light test. Feeder hay remains weak. Supplies remain heavy and exporters report current market prices don’t work overseas. Retail and feed store hay steady with feed stores discounting bales over 85 pounds by $10 per ton. Alfalfa mid-squares sold for $135 to $140 for the export market.”
In Idaho compared the previous week All grades of alfalfa steady in a light test. Trade remains slow with light demand. Stack damage is hampering movement as with lower prices, producers aren’t willing to tarp supplies. Mid squares of alfalfa rated supreme, sold between $115 and $125 per ton and mid-squares rated premium sold for $100 per ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady compared to the previous week. In Central Oregon large squares of supreme alfalfa sold for $170 per ton. In Lake County small squares of alfalfa rated premium sold for $185 per ton for the retail/stable market. In Eastern Oregon large squares of premium alfalfa sold for $155 per ton. Klamath Basin small squares of alfalfa rated good sold for $155 per ton for the retail/stable market. In Harney County large squares of premium alfalfa sold between $170 and $180 per ton.
