October Crop Production Report

October Crop Production Report

Here is National Agricultural Statistics Service's Mountain Director Bill Meyer with highlights from yesterday's October Colorado Crop Production report.

Meyer: "In Colorado our corn production is forecast at 164.2 million bushels, that's up 22 percent from last year. Our average yield estimated at 138 bushels per acre, down 2 bushels from last month and 4 bushels below last year's final yield. At the U.S. level for corn, they are estimating a corn crop of 15.1 billion bushels, that is up 11 percent from last year, but down slightly from last month. The average yield is expected to be 173.4 bushels per acre that is down one bushel from last month, but still up 5 from last year. If realized at the national level, will be the highest yielding production on record, I don't think we've had a 15 billion bushel crop before."

As of last week, Colorado's corn crop condition was rated 4 percent poor to very poor, 22 percent fair, and 74 percent good to excellent. Corn harvested for grain was 9 percent complete, compared with 10 percent last year and the 5-year average of 13 percent.

We will continue our conversation with Meyer tomorrow and learn of other forecast results for Colorado commodities.
