Wheat Rallies on Friday

Wheat Rallies on Friday

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for August 4, 2014.
Friday was a good day for the wheat market as it ended the week on a high note. USDA Market Reporter Robert Eaton gives an update on the region’s cattle market.
Eaton: “Feeder cattle compared to last week, prices were $15 to $20 per hundred weight lower for feeder steers and heifers. Prices for 650 to 700 pound feeders were running from $202 to $230 per hundred weight while 850 to 900 pound feeder steers are running $192 to $218 per hundred weight. Trade was moderate with moderate to good demand. The higher temperatures, I think, prevented some buyers and sellers from actually attending some of the auctions this week so the trade was a little bit lighter, but I think that was just because of the weather.”
Chicago September Wheat ended Friday up 4 cents at 5-34 and 1/4. September corn ended the day down 4 and 1/2 cents at 3-52 and 1/2.
Portland prices for soft white wheat were up 2 and 1/4 to 4 cents at mostly 6-91 and 1/2. White club wheat prices had no price comparisons but were at mostly 7-61 and 1/2. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11.5 percent protein prices were up 2 to 7 cents at mostly 7-40 and 3/4. DNS wheat with 14 percent protein prices were up 5 to 15 cents at mostly 7-98.
October live cattle were down $1.32 and half on Friday at 156-even. September Feeder cattle were down $1.30 at 219-90. September class III milk was up 21 cents at 21-57.
