Strong Week for Cattle Prices in the PNW

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for April 28, 2014.

USDA Grain and Livestock Market Report Greg Sanders gives an update of the region’s cattle markets for last week.

Sanders: “The market was pretty active on both slaughter cows and feeder cattle. Feeder cattle were quite a bit higher — up to $13 higher. They are still moving along and contracting calves a pretty fast rate 550 to 600 pounds calves for fall delivery are bring $205 to $210. Slaughter cows were quite a bit higher again this week also — bringing in the triple digits per hundred weight because of tight supplies of slaughter cows. And bulls were the same. Had the top bull up to $139.50 per hundred weight.”

Chicago July Wheat ended Friday up 11 and 3/4 cents at 7-08 and 1/4. July corn ended the day up 5 and 1/2 cents at 5-12 and 3/4.

Portland prices for soft white wheat were up 19 and 1/4 to 20 cents at mostly 7-84 and 3/4. White club wheat prices were up 11 and 1/4 to 20 cents at mostly 8-42 and 1/4. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11.5 percent protein prices were up 15 to 16 cents at mostly 8-86 and 1/2. DNS wheat with 14 percent protein prices were up 5 and 1/4 to 11 and 1/4 cents at mostly 8-87 and 1/2.

June live cattle were up 92 and half cents on Friday at 136-77 and half. August Feeder cattle were up 57 and half cents at 184-62 and half. June class III milk was up 2 cents at 20-83.
