More With Monsanto. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Line On Agriculture.

Monsanto has finally opened up about their genetically modified wheat. Rob Fraley, Chief Technology officer for Monsanto says that even though this wheat showed up in Oregon it has not been found anywhere else in the world.

FRALEY: Now there’s been a tremendous amount of uncertainty and misinformation about what is going on in the wheat marketplace. And while Japan and Korea have temporarily suspended new purchases of soft white wheat, it is important to note that we are not aware of any wheat orders being cancelled or any deliveries being rejected. No other countries have announced purchase restrictions and there has been no adverse affect on wheat prices.

Fraley once again reiterates what all the testing has shown.

FRALEY: So the bottom line from all of these test results; from the USDA, from our business and from Washington State University continue to reinforce that the commercial seed supply from the bi-state region does not contain the CP4 event. And it further underscores that this situation is extremely isolated.

But there are still a great deal of questions as to how this small amount of wheat showed up in this field since the testing program was completed 12 years ago and all of the seed wheat was destroyed. And the farmer never even participated in the testing program. Tomorrow we’ll take a closer look some of these questions.

That’s today’s Line On Agriculture. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
