New ARC Director Share Priorities
The new Director of the Agricultural Research Center at Washington State University and Associate Dean for Research in the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences has been on the job since May 1st. I caught up with the new director, Dr. Jim Moyer, at last week’s Washington Grain Commission meeting. He shares an overview of his organization’s role in Washington’s agriculture
Moyer: “The purpose of ARC is to develop the foundation for the future of Washington agriculture. We are the future. We develop new things for farmers that improve their efficiency and profitable. My goal is to continue building relationships with all of the commissions and commodity groups and to take that information back to the university and use that in our strategic planning.”
In addition to building relationships with Washington’s farmers and ranchers, Moyer also realizes the importance of working with his counterparts at our region’s other Land Grand Universities.
Moyer: “One of the first things I had the opportunity to meet with my counterparts in the other states. I know that there are strong historical relationships with University of Idaho and Oregon State University and so I’ve made those contacts and even learned that my counterpart at Idaho and I had a class together at WSU while I was here so I think we’re off to a great start developing those relationships.”
