9-10 SS Cast & Blast

9-10 SS Cast & Blast

A cast and blast trip that sounds like a fantasy.

Sam Langston is a friend of mine who I see on the tennis court all the time. The other day he told me that he was going on a cast and blast trip and was super excited. I’ll let him tell you the rest: “I am an avid bird hunter, and the birds and chasing that chucker. It is the sport of the chase, they are a hardy bird, difficult on hunters and dogs, so it makes it that much more challenging. I guess it’s the flush of the covey and being able to chase the covey and the challenge of reaching the birds. I am a classic shotgun guy and use a Browning side-by-side that I’ve hunted with since I was a kid. I have a German wirehaired pointer. The really neat thing about this trip is that you kind of combine a rafting trip in a very remote area of Idaho where you are not coming into contact with a lot of people and the fishing can be really good. Smallmouth bass, trout and in some times of the year during chucker season, steelhead. Usually we have 3 rafts with 3 people per raft and we just float, listen for the birds to come down to the water or you you can decide to go hunting for a few hours and climb up to the Rimrock where they usually are… Hunt for a few hours, make your way back down to the river, water the dogs, get back in the rafts and keep moving. It’s a remote wilderness river trip with hunting and fishing all kind of wrapped up in one.
