March Weather

March Weather. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

March begins this week and a lot of folks are hoping it will bring an early spring but the Ag Network’s staff meteorologist, Tim Creek says to not get ahead of yourself.

CREEK: The weather pattern into the northwest through the first half of the month of March looks to be cool and active. Kind of a way in which Mother Nature is telling us the winter season is not over quite yet. We are going to see a series of storms slide into the region from the west and northwest. It’s not going to bring excessively cold air into the region but it’s definitely going to give us temperatures that through the first part of the month should be below average and we are going to see rather consistent threats of scattered shower activity.

He says that will be good for maintaining a good snow pack in the mountains. But what about the second half of the month?

CREEK: As we get into the later part of March I do think we are going to see the weather pattern quieting down with high pressure becoming more of a dominate feature. I don’t think we’re going to get excessively warm but I do think the temperatures during the latter part of March are going to be at least at average levels - normal levels. And we are going to see really a greatly decreased threat of precipitation so compared to the last 2 late Marches and let’s say springtimes I think we’re going to get into a situation that’s pretty decent and again I don’t see any above average temperatures but definitely near normal conditions and it will feel pretty good especially after the first half of this month that should be cooler and wetter than average.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
