Crop insurance deadlines in the new year

Washington Ag Today December 19, 2011 USDA’s Risk Management Agency is reminding farmers and ranchers of the sales closing deadlines coming up in the new year for federal crop insurance. Jo Lynn Seufer with the regional office of the RMA says the first deadline is the end of January.

Seufer: “And those include our Adjusted Gross Revenue pilot available in select counties throughout the northwest in Washington, Idaho and Oregon. And also the Adjusted Gross Revenue Lite program that is available in all the counties of Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Alaska. And that sales closing date for new polices for AGR pilot and AGR Lite carryover policies is January 31 of 2012. AGR Lite new policies, final closing date of March 15th of 2012.”

In between those two dates, February 1st is the final date to obtain or change crop insurance coverage for spring planted onions and cabbage.

RMA notes that billing dates for Federal crop insurance policies were changed effective for 2012. Most billing dates were moved up to August 15th.

Producers are encouraged to visit with their crop insurance agent to learn specific details for the 2012 crop year.
