USBP chip meeting at Potato Expo 2012

If you are a chip potato grower and are going to Potato Expo 2012 in Orlando, plan to attend the U.S. Potato Board’s Chip Committee meeting. It is being held Wednesday, January 4th.

The Chip Committee guides the activities of the USPB pertaining to the development and pursuit of alternate uses of Chipping potatoes, breeding, variety research and the National Chip Processor Trials.

The Potato Board’s Kathleen Triou says a big component of the January meeting will be taking a look at what should be done in fiscal year 2013. That starts in July.

Triou: “And so we will take a review of our current budget, have a good discussion about the strategic direction of the chip program and then start to allocate out larger buckets of money where we are going to put our emphasis in fiscal year 13.”

Triou says USDA specialty crop grants are also on the agenda.

Triou: “One of the key components to this meeting as well is a review of the SCRI Acrylamide Grant update. We were the recipients for this new grant along with a SCRI grant for Zebra chip, that‘s been in play for a couple years, and so major both major SCRI grant programs will be reviewed and updated for the committee with an eye towards the future in term of next steps.”

The Committee will also hear a report on sales and performance research specific to the chipping industry.

That’s the U.S. Potato Update. Brought to you by the United States Potato Board, maximizing return on grower investment.
